Sugarbowl Ski Trip

Cornell Alumni Ski/Snowboard Saturday March 16th at Sugarbowl
Come meet up at Judah Lodge at 10AM.

https://maps.app.goo.gl/xC6WktswsZLTVNSR7

Organizer: Charles Wang
Sugarbowl is a Tahoe ski resort right off of I-80, easy drive 1:30-2 hr from Sacramento, which our family goes to every weekend.

Charles Wang (2002) and Yvonne Pang (2002) want to invite Cornell Alumni and their family to come and meet up on Saturday March 16th.

We have 13 half price lift ticket discounts to offer the group who want to meet up. Unfortunately does not apply to lessons, tubing, or rentals.

Currently full price Lift Tickets are $142 for March 16th – the pricing is dynamic so it can get more expensive, and (rarely less?) as the date gets closer. It’s $106 for Kids 12-22, and $76 for Kids 6-12, Kids under 5 is Free. To use the discount you have to ONLINE PURCHASE 24 HOURS before-you can’t use it at the window.
https://shop.sugarbowl.com/s/lift-tickets/

Rental Info:
Sugarbowl Rentals Ski/Snowboard (includes helmets) are $63/Adults and $45/Kids.
In the past for my kids, I rented the night before locally and returned the day after (you get 3 days, but pay for 1). The advantage is more snow time, since you don’t have to wait in rental lines.

We go to https://www.bluezonesports.com/locations/roseville, Adult is $45 Kids $30. Helmets are another $15.

Looks like there are similar places in Sac https://www.landparkski.com/

Lessons are also available online and usually meet near Judah Lodge at the base of the bunny hill White Pine.

If you haven’t skied or snowboarded before, I’d be happy to show you the basics on the White Pine bunny slope.

I snowboard, but taught one child to ski and the other to snowboard.

General Advice:
1st chair, when the lifts open is 9AM – last chair is 4PM.

THERE ARE 2 PARKING/ENTRANCES AREAS.

1) VILLAGE LODGE: The first lot you will see coming in on Donner Pass Rd. This is the Gonadal entrance to the Village Lodge.

It’s a really nice gondola ride to the base of the Village Lodge, but this is a DIFFERENT from Judah Lodge where we are meeting. If you choose this route, note you will have to ski over to Judah Lodge (two lifts, Nob Hill lift, short ski to Christmas Tree lift then ski down to Judah Lodge). Good for advance/intermediate skiers who want to ride the Gondola/perhaps those without kids.

2) JUDAH LODGE: If you continue past Donner Pass Rd and turn at Sugar Bowl Road (right after Donner Ski Ranch on the left side of the road). You will drive all the way down and there is usually someone directing parking before Judah Lodge. If it’s crowded there is a 10-5 minute walk from your car to Judah Lodge (there is a slowish shuttle from the cars to the lodge, usually quicker to walk).

You can pack food, especially suggested for snacks for kids. There is a small microwave on the 2nd floor, and a nice full bar for adults in Judah – and an even nicer cocktail bar in Village Lodge. Cafeterias are in both lodges. I also like stopping by the Mid Mountain Lodge (next to Christmas Tree/Lincoln Lift) for a sticky bun (make sure you ask them to warm it up!) after the first 1-2 runs.

If it snows that morning make sure you have AWD or carry chains. The chain control stop/check is typically before Kingvale. If there are chain controls, add another hour to the travel time. You can check for chain controls on https://quickmap.dot.ca.gov/, click options and select chain controls.
